Practice speaking Portuguese with instant AI feedback
Portuguese is spoken from Lisbon to São Paulo, and if you already know Spanish you’ll understand a lot. Speaking it accurately takes practice of its own, especially with verb forms Spanish doesn’t have.
What to focus on when speaking Portuguese
Ser, estar and ficar
Like Spanish, Portuguese splits “to be” in two, and adds “ficar” for location and change: “O hotel fica perto da praia.”
The future subjunctive
Used after “quando” and “se” for the future: “Quando eu for ao Brasil…”, “Se você puder…”. It barely exists in other Romance languages.
Você or tu
Brazilian Portuguese mostly uses “você”, European Portuguese often “tu”. Decide which variety you’re practising and keep your verbs consistent.
